ChatGPT will now let everyone ‘Deep Research’ anything they want

Deep Research, OpenAI’s sophisticated research and analysis tool, is becoming more accessible. The tool, which was first made available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers only in February, will now be available to users on the Plus, Team, and Pro plans in addition to free users via a new, lightweight version.

What is Deep Research?

With the use of OpenAI’s o3 model, Deep Research enables users to produce comprehensive reports and insights in a fraction of the time required for a person. It is integrated with ChatGPT and simplifies the information collection and display procedure.

Since its inception, Deep Research has grown in popularity, according to OpenAI, with users using it for a variety of purposes, including market research, literature evaluations, arranging skincare routines, and making life choices like selecting a college or residence.

With the help of its o4-mini model, OpenAI has now released a lighter version of Deep Research in an effort to increase accessibility. According to the business, this model is more economical to run and produces replies that are “nearly as intelligent” as those from the complete version. OpenAI guarantees that even if the replies are condensed, they will still be as thorough and high-quality as those from the tool’s full version.

Deep Research usage limits by plan

Although Deep Research is becoming widely available, use restrictions will differ based on your ChatGPT subscription:

  • Five tasks per month for free users (lightweight version only)
  • 10 tasks per month for Plus & Team customers (full version) and 15 tasks per month (lightweight version)
  • Pro users: 125 tasks per month (lightweight version) plus 125 tasks per month (full version)
  • 10 jobs per month (full version) for enterprise users

To prevent disruptions, ChatGPT will automatically transition to the lightweight version whenever a user reaches the full version limit. The tool will also be available to Enterprise and EDU customers beginning the following week.
