Apple published iOS 18.2 in December, more than a month after the company released iOS 18.1. The update included a number of new Apple Intelligence capabilities, such as Genmoji and Image Playground, for users of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as devices from the iPhone 16 series. However, iOS 18.1 enabled those iPhone owners to use Apple Intelligence, which may offer summaries across different devices.

With Apple Intelligence and a compatible iPhone, your smartphone can provide you a summary of a long email, a webpage, Message alerts, and more. It can also provide a summary of what you’ve written in Notes and other communications.

Learn about summaries with Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. It is important to note that you must first obtain Apple Intelligence for your iPhone before using it. To do so, navigate to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and then press Get Apple Intelligence.

Parsing through emails and email chains for information can be time-consuming, especially if you get a high volume of business emails on your smartphone. Fortunately, Apple Intelligence can summarize emails for you, allowing you to skip the preamble and get straight to the point of the letter.

To see email summaries, open Mail, choose the email you wish to read, and then drag your screen down to expose a new Summarize button. Tap here to see a summary. You may modify the number of lines of summary you see by navigating to Settings > Apps > Mail > Preview and selecting anywhere from 0 lines to five.
It’s also worth noting that if you’re using iOS 18.2’s Mail Categories, you’ll only receive AI summaries for emails in your primary category. Emails in other categories will not have summaries. If you use List

Notification summaries
Some of your applications can provide you with summary alerts on your Lock Screen via Apple Intelligence, and this functionality is usually enabled by default. This tool can describe your alerts in a few words, but be careful when reading them. According to the BBC, one of the publication’s headlines was erroneously paraphrased.
If you do not want to risk reading a terrible description, you may disable this option. Go to Settings > Notifications > Summarize Notifications, then press the toggles next to the applications you no longer wish to get notification summaries from. You can tap the

Page summaries in Safari

Apple Intelligence may also summarize certain webpages in Safari. To read these summaries, open Safari and navigate to a webpage, then look to the left of the address bar. You should see a rectangle with a few dashes and some sparkles. Tap this icon to see a menu with a summary of the webpage.
Be warned that this function is not available on all websites. On websites, this functionality is not working.
However, the symbol on the left side of the address bar will not have any sparkles.
Summarize text using Writing Tools.
Writing Tools is an Apple Intelligence menu that allows you to proofread, revise, or change what you’ve written. It also allows you to summarize a message or notes.
To read these summaries, highlight the text you wish to summarize, then touch Writing Tools in the pop-up menu (you may need to navigate through the options), and then press Summary. Writing Tools will display a summary of what you’ve highlighted and allow you to copy, replace, and share that summary. These summaries may help you prepare for a presentation, enable you rapidly skim over anything in Notes, or reduce your own communications down to
