Worried About Privacy? Here’s How to Blur Your House on Google Maps

This easy Google Maps technique keeps your home concealed from public view.
You may not know it, but your house is likely viewable to anybody internet with a short search. Google Maps’ Street View function allows users to visually tour streets all around the globe, including a clear view of your front yard, driveway, and even your automobile. While it is useful for navigation and trip planning, it may also pose severe privacy and safety issues.

People with evil intentions may take advantage of this level of exposure. This is why many celebrities opt to conceal their residences on Google Maps, preventing stalkers or criminals from getting a good look. The good news is that you don’t have to be famous to achieve this. With only a few clicks, you may ask Google to obscure your property and remove it from the digital map permanently. Here’s how you do it.

If your property is visible on Street View, you may want to consider taking this further step to obscure it from public view. Here is how.

How To Blur Your Home on Google Maps?

You’ll have to do this on your computer since the blurring option isn’t accessible in the Google Maps app for iOS or Android. It is available via your mobile device’s online browser, but it is somewhat difficult to use, so your best bet is to use a reputable web browser on your Mac or PC.

At maps.google.com, type your house address in the top-right search field, press return, and then click the snapshot of your property that displays. You will then view a Street View of your current location. Click the Report a Problem button in the lower right corner. The lettering is really small, but it is there.

Now it is up to you to decide what you want Google to obscure. Using your mouse, adjust the image’s perspective so that your house and whatever else you wish to blur is included between the red and black boxes. Move around with your mouse and zoom in and out with the plus and minus buttons.

After you’ve completed modifying the picture, choose what you’d want to blur underneath:

  • A face.
  • Your house.
  • Car/license plate.
  • A separate item.

In the event of a crowded photograph with several automobiles, people, and other things, you will be requested to provide additional information about what you want obscured.

Also, be sure that what you choose is precisely what you want obscured. Google warns that if you obscure anything in Street View, it is permanently blurred.

Finally, enter your email address (which is essential), validate the captcha (if necessary), and click Submit.

You should then get an email from Google stating that it will examine your report and contact you once the request is refused or granted. You may get more emails from Google requesting more information about your request. Google does not provide any information about how long your request will take to complete, so keep an eye out for any more emails.
