Don’t forget to stretch every day if you remember T9 type.
At its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, Apple said that iOS 26 will be the name of the next version of the iPhone’s operating system. The tech giant said that this fall’s update will give your iPhone’s buttons, apps, and a lot more a clear glass look. On the other hand, Apple added T9 calling to all iPhones with iOS 18 in 2024.
With T9 calling, all you have to do to call someone is type their name into the Phone app on your iPhone. To call someone, you don’t have to look for their name in your contacts or use Messages with iOS 18.
How to use T9 calling on your iPhone and everything you need to know about it.
What does T9 calling mean?
Text on nine keys is what T9 stands for. A lot of phones had 12 keys before they got full keyboards. These were for the pound sign, the numbers 0 through 9, and the star. It made me feel old to write that. You mostly used the nine numbered keys to text someone. There were three or four letters that went with each number key. The zero key was the spacebar, and the one key was empty.
When you open the Phone app and tap Keypad at the bottom of the screen, you can see the numbers and letters that go with them. To type “hello” at first, you had to press 44(H)-33(E)-555(L)-555(L)-666(0). It takes a long time to type that one short word. Texting with T9 was the first form of predictive typing. Some keys are cut down, so you can send texts faster. That’s how you type “hello”: 4-3-3-5-6. A lot easier.
How to use iPhone T9 calling
Making calls with T9 is now possible with iOS 18. How to do it.
- On your iPhone, open the Call app.
- Press the Keypad button at the bottom of the screen.
Following T9 rules, start putting the name of the person you want to call from here on out. There’s nothing to worry about, though. To call dad, you’d type 3-2-3 on your keyboard, and to call mom, you’d type 6-6-6. Their name should show up at the top of the screen. If you make a mistake while typing, a backspace button will show up under the dollar sign or mark. Press it as many times as you need to. Keep in mind that there is no “space” button. If you find the person and then tap their name, their phone number will be entered for you. After that, press the green call button.
If the same name is used by more than one person in your Contacts app, you’ll see a choice below the first result that says something like “3 more…” as you type. If you tap that, a new window will appear with all of your friends. Then, tap the call button next to the right person, and the call will begin right away. You should be ready to say why you’re calling them instead of writing them.
