Need Help With Math? Try Using This iPhone Messages Feature

The Messages app on your iPhone allows you to solve equations and conduct conversions.
It’s okay if you need a little assistance because not everyone can mentally calculate an equation or convert data. You won’t need to open Google to get a conversion rate or open your calculator app to solve complex equations thanks to this secret iOS 18 feature. You can use your Messages app instead.

Tech Advice

Before iOS 18, you had to visit Spotlight or your calculator app and then return to Messages if you wanted to find out how to split a bill among your messaging group from a distance. With iOS 18, you can convert data like temperature and currencies without switching applications, and you can do multistep computations in Messages.

Here’s how to add computations to messages.

How to use Messages to solve arithmetic problems

The solution will show up in the predictive text area above your keyboard if you put the issue into your text field and add the equals symbol (=) to solve a math equation in Messages. To include the solution in your writing, tap it.

Simple arithmetic problems, such as “2+2=”, can be solved by messages by entering them in the text field. Additionally, the program can answer problems using more intricate formulae, such the sine, cosine, and tangent trigonometric functions. No matter what, you must always conclude each equation with the equals sign (=).

Messages: How to convert values

Solving arithmetic issues in the app is comparable to converting values in Messages. The conversion will be shown in the predictive text field above your keyboard when you put the value into your text box with the relevant value marker, such as F for Fahrenheit or lbs for pounds, and then write the equal sign (=)

Predictive text will determine what to convert to if you don’t specify it. The software won’t attempt to translate pounds to minutes, so don’t worry. Conversions to other comparable units will be displayed in messages; for example, pounds will be converted to kilograms and Fahrenheit to Celsius.

By entering something like “60hr to min=”, you may select what you want to convert to. Messages will then show the 3,900-minute conversion in the predictive text area.
