Try this one-second Roku restart before you yell at your TV. You’re not the only one whose Roku freezes or buffers just as the show starts to get good. Luckily, it’s easy to fix. A few easy changes can quickly speed up your streaming device, even if the options are slow, it stops randomly, or there’s lag that makes moving around feel like work.
These easy fixes can bring even the most stubborn Roku players back to life. They range from clearing the cache to changing the network settings. They worked better for me right away, with smoother streaming and faster load times. Do not give up on your Roku just yet, even if it seems like it is about to die. If you try this first, you might not need a new one at all.
In my experience, getting rid of that secret junk made things go faster right away. It made my Roku feel brand new again and freed up space. Before you buy a new one if yours is acting slow, give this a try first.
How to clear the cache on your Roku TV
On a Roku TV, this step isn’t as easy to follow as on other devices. If you follow these steps, your device will run faster and its files will be cleared. Remember that your Roku TV will start up again.
Reset the Roku TV in the menu
- Select the Settings menu from the main menu by scrolling to the bottom of the list.
- Find System in Settings and open it.
- Find Power and click on it.
- Pick System Restart and click Restart to make sure.
This will turn off your TV and clear the cache, but it won’t return it to the original settings. In a minute or two, your Roku TV should be back on. If this doesn’t work, you can try to reset the TV with the secret remote instead.
Use the remote to reset the Roku TV.
- Make sure the Home choice on the left is highlighted in the Home screen.
- Press the Home button five times on your control.
- Once press the Up button.
- Two presses of the “Rewind” button.
- Two presses of the Fast Forward button.
- Wait until your Roku starts up again.
Get rid of the app
If restarting the Roku TV doesn’t fix the slowing, you might need to remove and reload the app that you think is the problem. Just so you know, when you restart the app, all of your friends and settings will be lost, and you will have to set them all back up.
- Draw attention to the app, but don’t open it.
- Do what the * button on your radio says.
- From the pop-up menu, choose Remove Channel.
How to reset your Roku TV to its original settings
If you’re still having problems, you might want to start over with the Roku TV again. It will be like you just bought it from the store again after you do this. All of your users, sign-ins, and apps will be gone.
- You can get to Settings from the menu.
- Pick out System when you find it.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System menu and click on Advanced System Settings.
- To complete the reset, choose Factory Reset and enter the code that’s written below the number pad on the right.
